I have always been an artist. Even in grade school, I was asked to design school flyers and bulletin boards... That was just the beginning! Although I have always been an artist, it wasn't always my occupation. Interestingly, I worked in various roles such as a swim instructor and lifeguard, retail salesperson, bookkeeper, payroll clerk, City Clerk, restaurant hostess, art teacher for K-8, airline ground crew and desk agent, school district sub-secretary, teachers' assistant, and even became an accidental special needs advocate. Yes, I'm a little ADD! Being at retirement age has allowed me to paint more often, focusing on my watercolor paintings and commissioned artwork, improving my skills along the way. Though I have been creating original artwork for over 35 years, I am still learning. Honestly, I do not know how to paint. God blessed me with this gift, and it is only with His help that I am able to create.

I will try any art medium. In the past, I have created original artwork using acrylics, oils, pastels, charcoal, pencils, pen & ink, ceramics, batik, woodburning, and watercolor paintings. I also enjoy some crafting. I was a certified teacher of Bob Ross for a few years and was fortunate enough to meet him and win one of his paintings! Af

I also enjoy some crafting. I was a certified teacher of Bob Ross for a few years and was fortunate enough to meet him and win one of his paintings! After having kids, it became more convenient to paint with watercolors, as they are much easier to clean up or pause if necessary. I took classes in watercolor for about 5 years over 35 years ago. I still don't use traditional methods nor do I know all the color names... My instructor once told me that I use watercolors in a way similar to how someone would use oils, mixing my colors by sight. I also occasionally take on commissioned artwork.

I find inspiration everywhere and in everything... through sight, sound, taste, touch, memories, thoughts, and dreams for my original artwork. My spouse, a talented photographer, captures many of the images that inspire my work. Recently, some Facebook friends who take amazing vacations and photos have generously allowed me to use their images as inspiration for my commissioned artwork. I enjoy painting a variety of subjects, including old trucks, rusted locks, wood, landscapes, seascapes, food & drink, animals & pets, houses & buildings, roads & bridges, and plants & flowers. Watercolor paintings are my favorite medium.

The inspiration for this painting came from a photo by David Naumann of Florissant, Missouri. It was an honor to paint one of the stunning sunsets we are blessed to see in the midwest.
I paint my own style in watercolor. As much as I try to "let go" and create the traditional light and loose style watercolor, I end up ruining it or resorting back to my style.

The inspiration photo was taken at the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The pool was almost 'still' and had the reflective power of a mirror. It was such a lush, tranquil, and warm display.
Flowers have always intimidated me but I have no problem with an old rusted truck or a train engine. Go figure! However, I am pleased with the final piece.

This painting is an old-fashion 'streaming app'... you don't need an internet connection... just a fishing pole, a camera or a paintbrush!
Alaska provides endless inspiration. I just loved the photo of this mountain valley. A cool, clear stream winds through the lush green floor as the velvety forest rises up the mountain until the rock stretches beyond the treeline toward the sun.
